The heliospheric magnetic field at solar minimum: Ulysses observations from pole to pole
The fast transit of the Ulysses spacecraft from the south polar regions of the heliosphere to the north polar regions has allowed us to obtain a unique perspective on the configuration and properties of the heliospheric magnetic field at a time of solar minimum activity. We compare the magnetic field in the northern and southern hemispheres and find no evidence of asymmetry in the radial compon...
متن کاملStable reduction to the pole at the magnetic equator
The solution of reduction to the pole (RTP) of magnetic data in the wavenumber domain faces a long standing difficulty of instability when the observed data are acquired at low magnetic latitudes or at the equator. We develop a solution to this problem that allows stable reconstruction of the RTP field with a high fidelity even at the magnetic equator. The solution is obtained by inverting the ...
متن کاملEvidence for pole switching in the magnetic cataclysmicvariable
An analysis of X-ray and optical light curves of the magnetic cataclysmic variable (MCV) BY Cam is presented. This system is one of 3 MCVs in which the spin period of the white dwarf and the binary orbital period diier by 1%. As such thesèBY Cam' stars are important objects with which to probe the eld structure of the magnetic white dwarf and ultimately the nature of synchronisation of AM Her b...
متن کاملAnalysis and Control of a Three Pole Radial Magnetic Bearing
This work presents a new method of formulating the current to force relationship for a three-pole radial magnetic bearing. This relationship is readily inverted to yield a general mapping from force to current that can be realized by a three-phase motor drive. Position dependence of the bearing forces and force slew rate limiting implications are also explored.
